Microsoft has confirmed that it will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. However, users will get Microsoft 365 apps’ security and feature updates and Defender updates till 2028
Microsoft has revealed that it will stop supporting Windows 10 by October 14, 2025, which is a big news for the millions of customers who are already using the operating system. It did affirm, though, that consumers will keep getting some important upgrades through 2028.
Microsoft stated in a blog post that even when Windows 10’s official support ends, users would still receive updates for Microsoft 365 apps, Defender Antivirus, and enhanced protection.
What’s changing
Microsoft will cease to provide Windows 10 security patches, feature updates, and technical support after October 2025. This implies that no additional maintenance or enhancements will be made to the system itself.
However, two major services will continue working safely on Windows 10 devices for several more years:
Microsoft 365 Apps (like Word, Excel, Outlook)
- These apps will receive security updates until October 10, 2028.
- Feature updates (i.e., new tools or interface improvements) will be available until August 2026.
Microsoft Defender Antivirus
Through October 2028, security intelligence updates will be provided to help consumers stay safe from emerging viruses and malware.
